1. PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the Saryu Canal National Project at Balrampur District, Uttar Pradesh.

A) This project has been completed at a cost of over Rs 9,800 crore, out of which, more than Rs 4,600 crore was provisioned in the last four years.

B) It provides irrigation to over 14 lakh hectares of land in 9 districts of the eastern Uttar pradesh.

C) According to an official statement, the work on this project was started in 1978 but due to lack of continuity of budgetary support, interdepartmental coordination and adequate monitoring, it got delayed and was not completed even after nearly four decades.

2. ‘Swarnim Vijay Parv’ is being celebrated at India Gate, New Delhi from December 12 till December 13, 2021.

A) It is being celebrated to commemorate the 50 years of India’s historic victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war and the Indo-Bangladesh friendship. 

B) The event will be inaugurated by the Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh.

C) Major weapons and equipment used during the 1971 war will be displayed along with the snippets of major battles.

3. Union Minister for Ports Shipping and Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the River Cruise Services at the Mormugao Port in Goa.

A) This will be a common user’s facility and any entrepreneur can venture into and start a new and similar type of Service from this berthing facility, available in the Port.

B) Port, being a service industry, is providing the facilities for both the Exim and Domestic sector.

C) The Port is 32 years old and is expanding gradually over the years, meeting the demands of the growing trade for its service to the Nation.

4. US government official Catherine Russell appointed a new Executive Director of United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

A) She became the 8th Executive Director, succeeding the former Executive Director, Henrietta Fore.

B) She is currently Assistant to the President, and Director of the White House Office of Presidential Personnel.

C) UNICEF was founded on 11th December 1946 and has the headquarters in New York, United States.

5. India successfully flight-tested the indigenously developed helicopter-launched stand-off anti-tank (SANT) missile in Rajasthan’s Pokhran firing ranges.

A) The weapon is developed for the Indian Air Force and can neutralise the targets in a range up to 10 km.

B) The Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh has congratulated the team associated with the project.

C) The SANT missile has been designed and developed by Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad, in coordination with other DRDO labs and participation from industries.

6. G7 ministers present a united front against Russia over the Ukraine crisis.

A) The G7 meeting comes amid international concern that Russia could invade Ukraine. Russia denies planning any attack.

B) The meeting was attended in person by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his counterparts from France, Italy, Germany, Japan and Canada.

C) G7 nations are also increasingly concerned about China’s growing economic and technological dominance, especially in developing countries.

7. Norway’s Chess Grandmaster Magnus Carlsen won the 2021 World Chess Championship.

A) He defeats Russian Chess Grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi with a final match score of 7.5-3.5.

B) Magnus Carlsen is the five-time World Chess Champion (since 2013), three-time World Rapid Chess Champion, and five-time World Blitz Chess Champion.

C) Before Magnus Carlsen, Viswanathan Anand was the World Chess Champion (from 2007 to 2013).
