1. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare signs MoU with UNDP for strategic partnership on Agriculture, Crop Insurance and Credit.

A) The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW), Government of India and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) wherein UNDP will provide technical support towards Centre’s aspirational Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) scheme & Kisan Credit Card – Modified Interest Subvention Scheme.

B) Under the MoU, UNDP will leverage its expertise in systems and global know-how for supporting the Ministry of Agriculture for the implementation of combined agriculture credit and crop insurance.

2. Shri Hardeep S Puri has launched ‘BHARAT TAP’ initiative at Plumbex India Exhibition.

A) The Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs & Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Hardeep S Puri launched the BHARAT TAP initiative at the ‘Plumbex India’ exhibition, here today. This exhibition is aimed for products and services related to the plumbing, water and sanitation industry. 

B) The Minister said that the Plumbing industry is capitalising on the business opportunity while also playing a significant role in supporting the development of sanitation and other basic services in the country. 

3. The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in March 2022 passed a resolution to mark May 12th as International Day of Plant Health (IDPH).

A) The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution was co-signed by countries like Bolivia, Finland, Pakistan, the Philippines, Tanzania, and Zambia.

B) Protecting plant health will help in eliminating hunger, reducing poverty, protecting biodiversity, and boosting economic growth and development. This is because Plants contribute to 80% of food needs and 98% of oxygen.

4. Union Minister for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) launched the second phase of the MSME RuPay Credit Card with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and 4 banks- Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bank of Baroda, SBM Bank (India), and HDFC Bank.

A) Banks can monitor the transactions of MSME borrowers at a micro-level. With the availability of digital payments, the MSME RuPAY Credit Card will reduce the demand for cash withdrawal.

B) The government scheme cards offered by RuPAY include RuPay Mudra, RuPay Kisan credit card, RuPay PMJDY (Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana) card, etc.

5. Kerala has been struck by another viral disease known as the Tomato Flu.

A) This is a flu that causes red blisters and rashes on the body of the infected child. They are mostly generally red in colour and hence it is known as Tomato Fever or Tomato Flu.

B) All the 80 cases in Kerala have been detected from the Kollam district. But since then, some cases of tomato flu have been detected in the Anchal, Neduvathur, and Aryankavu districts.

6. Sri Lanka’s new PM Wickremesinghe has faced an uphill task.

A) Sri Lanka has a long and hard economic grind ahead with newly appointed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe tasked to negotiate a potentially tough loan from the IMF to save the Island Nation from financial collapse and instability.

B) Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa was apparently offered the job by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa but his condition that the younger brother of Mahinda Rajapaksa must resign, and the executive presidency must be dissolved was not acceptable to the Rajapaksa regime. 

7. Construction of a massive solar power plant in space is in the plans of The UK.

A) The United Kingdom is reportedly planning to build a solar power station in space and use it to beam energy down to Earth using lasers, according to Space.com. 

B) British engineering firm International Electric Company has developed a modular concept called CASSIOPeiA or Constant Aperture, Solid-State, Integrated, Orbital Phased Array. The initiative is currently exploring this concept. ‘Modular’ here means that the orbiting power plant could be expanded after the demonstration phase.

8. According to McAfee’s 2022 Report Indian children are more likely to be victimised by cyberbullying.

A) The report titled ‘Life behind the screens of parents, tweens, and teens’ explains how those most vulnerable may be left under-protected.

B) In India, smartphone use at the age of 10 to 14 is at 83 percent, which is significantly 7 per cent above the international average of 76 per cent. This leads to high exposure to online risks as there is a substantial security gap between parents and children.
