1. Ministries and departments in the Union government have been asked to track the speeches of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by continuously updating a dashboard, ‘PM Speech Tracker’. 

A) They were recently provided training on various aspects of the dashboard’s functioning and updation procedures.

B) Niti Aayog said the training programme was conducted in coordination with the NIC division to understand the functioning of the dashboard.

C) The idea is to track the impact of the speeches on social media and other media platforms and also to see the narrative developed on the speeches besides amplifying the messaging.

2. India helped Maldives to preserve its pre-Islamic heritage.

A) A financial grant of approximately Rs. 2.75 crores (4 million Maldivian rufiyaa) by India is helping restore one of the many archeological sites in the Maldives that are remnants of the country’s Buddhist past.

B) The two countries signed seven Memorandums of Understanding, that also included the preservation of heritage sites, under which the financial grant is being disbursed.

C) For the Maldives, Landhoo island serves as an important link in understanding and researching the country’s pre-Islamic past.

D) In 2001, a coral block was found at the Mahabodhi archaeological site, with inscriptions on four sides of the block, depicting a version of the southern Brahmi script from the Pallava period, dating to the 6th century AD. 

E) Historians consider this inscription to be the oldest surviving script to be found in the country. “The inscription is a mantra of Vajrayana Buddhism, a form of Buddhism that had existed in the Maldives in ancient times. 

3. Special kinds of rocks on Mars hint at violent volcanic eruptions.

A) A team of researchers at the Arizona State University’s School of Earth and Space Exploration has determined that the olivine-rich bedrock in the Gusev crater and in and around the Jezero crater on Mars may be a special type of rock called “ignimbrite”.

B) This rock is both igneous and sedimentary and forms due to explosive eruptions from volcanoes.

C) Bedrock rich in olivine and carbonate links the Gusev crater, which was explored 16 years ago by NASA’s Spirit rover, and the Nili Fossae region, where the Mars 2020 Perseverance rover is currently exploring.


4. Three ministries to form a consortium for climate-related policies.

A) In a first, three ministries earth sciences (MoES), science and technology, and environment, forest and climate change (MoEFCC), are set to form a consortium for climate science, mitigation and adaptation.

B) The idea of the inter-ministerial consortium is to avoid duplication of climate-related policy formulation and research, and work cohesively towards climate action and towards realising India’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) under the Paris Agreement.

C) MoES, DST and MoEFCC will work together along with academia, institutes and national laboratories to have different outcomes. We will discuss the modalities at our next monthly meeting.”

5. Two PMC hospitals have been selected to implement LaQshya programme.

A) Two civic body hospitals have been selected to implement the labour room quality improvement initiative (LaQshya), which is a national level programme to prevent maternal deaths and stillbirths.

B) Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) was selected for the pilot project in the state and among the civic maternity hospitals, Kamala Nehru and Sonawane were selected

C) PMC hospitals have a low rate of maternal deaths and stillbirths. However, the programme aims to improve health care facilities in government hospitals which in turn can help bring down the maternal deaths ratio.

6. Annual mango mela returns to Bengaluru after two years.

A) After a two-year gap, the Karnataka horticulture department will organise a mango mela in late May or early June in Lalbagh.

B) The mela had not been conducted for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This year, it is expected to showcase eight to ten varieties of mangoes, including Alphonso, Raspuri, Totapuri, Amrapalli and Mallika.

C) The event provides a platform for farmers to sell their produce directly to consumers and for visitors to get naturally ripened fruits.

D) Officials said a decrease in hermaphrodite flowers, key for a good yield, was observed in mango trees across the state.

7. New rule to tackle crypto tax evasion.

A) A new rule will oblige cryptocurrency companies and exchanges to store Know Your Customer (KYC) information and financial transactions of all their customers for five years.

B) However, experts also concede that this development will significantly increase the compliance cost of cryptocurrency exchanges.

C) The country’s Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-in), which is overseen by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued a new set of rules stating that VPN providers and crypto exchanges must keep a wide range of data about their users. The new guidelines are set to take effect late in June.
