2. A recent report states that the Great Barrier Reef is prone to severe coral bleaching.
a) Within two years the Great Barrier Reef suffered widespread and severe coral bleaching due to high temperatures.
b) Greenpeace said severe and widespread coral bleaching occurred during the La Nina weather pattern that is linked to cooler Pacific Ocean temperatures
c) There was evidence of the failure of the Australian government to protect coral from the effects of climate change.
3. The European Union (EU) countries decided to impose the world’s first carbon dioxide (CO2) emission duty on imports of polluting goods.
a) The purpose of imposing this tariff is to protect European industry, as the European market is flooded with cheap goods made in countries with weak environmental regulations.
b) This carbon tariff proposal is part of the EU’s climate change policies aimed at reducing EU carbon emissions by 55% by 2030 from 1990 levels.
4. According to MoES the Rs 4077 crore project will help India to study the origin of life in the Deep-Ocean Mission (DOM).
a) The DOM will also help India to map the ocean floor, which is a rich source of metals and minerals.
b) DOM can lead to the development of various technologies such as acoustic phones, components to withstand high pressure environments, research ships and related infrastructure.
5. According to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation (MoSPI) in the hall, India’s retail inflation rose to 6.07 per cent in February which is higher than the RBI’s limit of 6 per cent.
a) Retail inflation is measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
b) According to the RBI Act 1934, the central government with the help of RBI should determine inflation in terms of Consumer Price Index (CPI).
c) According to the data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Wholesale Price Based Inflation (WPI) stood at 13.11 per cent in February.
6. According to the Parliamentary Committee, it has been said in the recently released report that the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes has been inactive for the last four years.
a) The Committee is constrained to note that the report of the Commission since 2018 is still under process in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and has not been presented to the Parliament till date.
b) The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) is a constitutional body constituted by the 89th Amendment Act, 2003.
7. The Government of India said that voting against Russia in the ICJ is a personal matter of Indian Judge Dalveer Bhandari.
a) The government has distanced itself from the vote of Indian Judge Dalveer Bhandari against Russia in the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

8. Recently the Adani Group entered into a potential partnership with Aramco, the world’s largest oil exporter.
a) The Gautam Adani-led group is said to have discussed the idea of a Public Investment Fund (PIF) buying a stake in oil giant Saudi Arabian Aramco.
b) The Public Investment Fund (PIF) is a sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia.
c) A deal could help Aramco deepen ties into one of the world’s fastest growing energy consumers.
9. Recently National Mineral Development Corporation Limited (NMDC) signed a MoU with IIT Kharagpur for drone based mineral exploration.
a) NMDC is the largest iron ore producer in the country.
b) MoU was signed for ‘Drone-based Mineral Exploration’ on Virtual Platform.
c) NMDC and IIT Kharagpur will develop spectral products, methods and algorithms for exploration using drones (UAVs) for mining.
10. The National Weightlifting Championship will be held in Bhubaneswar from March 19 to 31, 2022.
a) Participate in Railway Weightlifting National Championship to retain the championship title to be held in Bhubaneswar.
