1. Every year the Indian Navy Day is celebrated on December 4.
A) This year the Indian Navy Day is celebrated on the following theme
Theme: Indian Navy – Combat Ready, Credible and Cohesive.
B) The theme sends the message that India is keenly watching the moves of the Chinese in the Indian Ocean Region and the Indian Navy is combat ready to encounter the Chinese forces anytime. The message includes Pakistani forces as well.
C) Every year the Indian Navy Day is celebrated to commemorate Operation Trident. The operation was launched by the Indian Navy during the India-Pakistan war of 1971 to attack Karachi Harbour.
Operation python
After the first attack during Operation Trident, the Pakistan Navy attempted to outsmart the Indian Navy by mingling with merchant ships. Operation Python was launched to counter this move of the Pakistan Navy.
History of Indian Navy day
Earlier during British rule, Indian Navy Day was celebrated in the month of October coinciding with the Royal Navy’s Trafalgar Day. The Trafalgar Day falls on October 21.
Indian Navy
The President of India is the supreme commander of the Indian Navy. A four-star admiral is appointed as the Chief of Indian Navy and he commands the navy. The Indian Navy was founded in 1612 in order to protect the British merchant ships.
Why was Operation Trident launched?
In the evening of December 3, 1971, Pakistan attacked Indian Air bases. In response to the attack the Indian Defence Force launched Operation Trident. Three high speed missile boats namely Nirghat, Nipat, Veer were dispatched towards the Karachi port
2. India and Bangladesh to celebrate ‘Maitri Divas’ on Dec 06.
A) ‘Maitri Divas’ marking the day India recognized Bangladesh ten days before its liberation on 16 December 1971 will be celebrated in 18 countries across the world.
B) Under The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Maitri Divas will be commemorated in Belgium, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Russia, Qatar, Singapore, UK. Australia, France, Japan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, UAE, and USA.
C) India was one of the first countries to establish bilateral diplomatic relations with the newly independent Bangladesh in 1971.
D) During the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh in March this year to attend the national day of Bangladesh, it was decided to commemorate December 6 as the Maitri Diwas or Friendship Day.
E) The Maitri Diwas is a reflection of the deep and abiding friendship between the people of India and Bangladesh that has been forged in blood and shared sacrifices, said the MEA in its statement.
3. “Puneet Sagar Abhiyan” conducted by NCC for a campaign to free seashore / beaches from plastic.
A) National Cadet Corps (NCC) is carrying out a nationwide campaign to free seashores / beaches from plastic & other waste materials and increase awareness about the importance of keeping these clean.
B) The aim of the month-long Campaign is to propagate the message of ‘Importance of Clean Seashores/Beaches’ amongst the local population and future generation beginning December 01, 2021.
C) The Key objectives of the campaign are to clean the plastic waste along the seashores in coastal areas, to generate awareness and educate target population about the measures for conservation and impact of plastic pollution along the sea beaches and to sensitise and mobilise support of local population towards prevention of pollution.
D) A total of 3.40 lakh cadets from 127 coastal Area NCC Units will participate in the month-long activity. The NCC units at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mumbai, IIT Chennai, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Kozhikode and NIT Puducherry will also be incorporated for suggesting clean technologies for recycle/disposal of the plastic waste to the civil administration through the respective State directorates.
4. People of Tripura are pushing the “Demand for Greater Tripland”.
What is the issue?
There are 19 notified Scheduled Tribes in Tripura. Among these, 5.92 lakh are Tripuris, 1.88 lakh are Reangs. These three tribal groups are the major tribes in the state. Some of the minor tribal groups have joined hands and formed TIPRA Motha (Tirpaha Indigenous Regional Alliance) and IPFT (Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura) political parties. These parties are now arguing that they want a separate state for their “survival and existence”.
Constitutional Validity in the issue
They claim that they are making the demand under Article 2 and Article 3 of the constitution. Article 2 of the constitution says that “The Parliament shall permit the establishment of new states and union territories and also permit the entry of new states and UTs into the Indian Union”. Article 3 says that “Parliament shall increase or diminish the area of a state”.
Why did the issue come into picture?
Tripura was ruled by Manikya dynasty since the late 13th century till it signed the Instrument of Accession with the Government of India in 1949. Instrument of Accession is the document signed by the Indian states to enter into the Union of India after independence. In due course, some of the indigenous tribes in the region have become minority in the state. This happened mainly because of the displacement of the Bengalis from East Pakistan during the 1971 war. In 1881, the tribal population in the state was 63.77%. It reduced to 31.8% in 2011.
5. IREDA and THDCIL have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Green Energy Collaboration.
A) The Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd (IREDA) has entered right into a pact with THDC India Ltd (THDCIL), beneath which it is going to present techno-financial experience in creating renewable vitality tasks. Both the entities have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this impact.
B) Under the MoU, IREDA will undertake techno-financial due diligence of renewable vitality and vitality effectiveness and conservation tasks for THDCIL.
C) “This MoU will assist THDCIL to speed up their footprints within the Renewable Energy house, which already has a portfolio of Solar & Wind vitality tasks aside from Hydro and Thermal.

E) This will help us to reduce carbon emissions to 45 per cent by 2030 in India, these collaborations will enable us to contribute to meeting the targets of the Paris Agreement.
F) This is the sixth MoU signed by IREDA inside one year for offering its consultancy companies for builders of RE and Energy transition.
G) IREDA had signed MoUs with SJVN, NHPC, TANGEDCO, NEEPCO and BVFCL to increase its techno-financial experience for Green Energy tasks.
6. Pradip Shah,has been appointed chairman of National Asset Reconstruction Company (NARCL).
A) Pradip Shah, founder of IndAsia Fund Advisors, has been appointed chairman of National Asset Reconstruction Company (NARCL).
B) Shah, an MBA from Harvard and chartered accountant, is credited for establishing India’s first and largest housing finance company, HDFC, and rating firm Crisil.
C) Aditya Birla Asset Reconstruction Company Managing Director Sanjay Jain will be the chief executive of India Debt Resolution Company (IDRCL), the privately owned asset management company (AMC) mandated to resolve bad loans acquired by NARCL.
7. General Assembly Institutes Olympic Truce for Beijing 2022.
A) The General Assembly recognized the unifying power of sport and science as humanity struggles to emerge peacefully from a devastating global pandemic.
B) Delegates paid tribute to the ancient Greeks’ use of sports competition to foster peace, adopting the 193‑member Assembly’s annual draft resolution entitled, “Sport for development and peace: Building a peaceful and better world through sport and the Olympic ideal”.
C) China is committed to hosting an open and inclusive Winter Olympic Games in 2022, which will build resilience to the Covid‑19 pandemic as it fosters tolerance and mutual understanding.
D) By adopting this resolution, you are supporting the mission of the Olympic Games to unite the best winter sport athletes of the entire world, without any discrimination whatsoever, in a peaceful and respectful competition.
8. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Delhi- Dehradun corridor.
What are the other projects?
A) 120 MW Vyasi hydroelectric project 38 – km long Char Dham road project between Shrikot and Devprayag 33 – km stretch between Kaudilya and BrahmapuriState of perfumery and aroma laboratory in Dehradun.
B) The centre will focus on developing high yielding advanced varieties of aromatic plants Delhi – Dehradun corridor.
C) PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for Delhi – Dehradun corridor. The corridor is to be built at a cost of Rs 8,300 crores.
D) The project is to be executed in Engineering, Procurement and Construction mode. In EPC mode, the government pays the private developer for constructing roads. And the toll revenue accrues to the government.
E) The highway is to be divided into four sections. Section 1 is to be developed as 6 lanes. Also, it is divided into two packages. The package 1 falls in Delhi portion and Package 2 falls in Uttar Pradesh portion.The main aim of the corridor is to decongest North East Delhi
F) The corridor will enhance the Mandola Vihar Yojana of Government of Uttar Pradesh and also the development potential of Tronica city.
9. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurates 64th foundation day celebrations of Directorate of revenue intelligence.
A) On the occasion of Foundation Day of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) today, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman congratulated DRI and its officers on their performance and commendable service, especially during the COVID pandemic.
B) She inaugurated DRI’s 64th Founding Day celebrations at New Delhi.
C) Ms. Sitharaman unveiled ‘Smuggling in India Report 2020-21’. The report highlights the performance of DRI over the last year and captures issues related to national security, foreign trade policy, gold smuggling, environmental violations, narcotics, import and export frauds, violations of allied Acts, international cooperation, public health and safety.
D) On this occasion, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary also lauded the anti-smuggling and enforcement operations done by DRI.
10. The world’s largest national flag has been exhibited by Western Naval command.
A) On the occasion of Navy Day 21, the world’s largest national flag has been exhibited by the Western Naval Command at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai, overlooking the iconic Gateway of India.
B) Measuring 225 feet in length and 150 feet in width, the flag weighs about 1400 kgs and is made of khadi. It has been conceptualized and manufactured by the Khadi and Village Industries and Commission as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
C) As the Indian Navy rededicates itself to the service of the nation on Navy Day, it renews its pledge and commitment to protect and promote national interests and serve the people of India through this small but important gesture of exhibiting the monumental national flag.
