1. The researchers of the Netherlands have discovered a new HIV VB variant.
A) HIV VB variant causes 3.5 times to 5.5 times higher levels of infection.
B) This variant was firstly identified under the Beehive project. This project monitors HIV samples collected from Uganda and Europe.
C) The recovery of the immune system in the VB variant is the same as that of the other HIV variants.
D) The primary target of HIV is to kill the immune (CD4 T) cells, in patients infected with the VB variant, the CD4 decline is two times higher.
E) CD4 T – cells are called helper cells and also trigger the response of the body.
2. The 2028 Summer Olympics will be held from July 21 to August 6, 2028, in Los Angeles, USA.
A) This is the first summer Olympics to be held in the US since 1996 and This is the third time Los Angeles is hosting the Olympics.
B) It includes surfing, climbing, skateboarding, swimming, Diving, Water Polo, Archery, athletics, basketball, badminton, canoeing, cycling, etc.
C) The 2024 summer Olympics to be held from 26 July to 11 August 2024 in Paris, France.
D) The 2020 Summer Olympics was held from 23 July to 8 August 2021 in Tokyo, Japan.
3. Aravalli Biodiversity Park was announced as the first Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures site, OECM site.
A) The OECM tag is provided by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, IUCN.
B) OECM sites are not protected but are rich in biodiversity. This is the first OECM site in the country.
C) Aravalli Biodiversity Park is spread over 390 acres with more than 43,000 shrubs, 101,000 trees and 300 endemic plant species.
D) Aravallis are considered as the green lungs of Delhi. It provides 7.07% of oxygen to Delhi.
4. India and Vietnam Sign Letter of Intent (LoI) to Establish Partnership in Digital Media.
A) The LoI anticipates sharing information and experience in establishing policies and regulatory
frameworks on digital media and social networks
B) The LoI expects to conduct capacity building and training programmes for media professionals and
officials in both India and Vietnam.
C)The year 2021 marks the completion of 5 years of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between
India and Vietnam and 2022 is set to mark 50 years of diplomatic relations between India and
Vietnam.
5. Dubai became the world’s first 100% paperless government.
A) This announcement was made by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
B) It will be implemented in five consecutive phases, each phase involving a different group of Dubai Government entities.
C) The United Arab Emirates is located in the Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia. It shares borders with the Persian Gulf with Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and Iran.
6. The Indian cricket team won the ICC U19 World Cup 2022.
A) The 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup was held in the West Indies in January and February 2022 with participants of sixteen teams.
B) This ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup is a fourteen edition of the world and the first that was held in the West Indies.
7. PM condoles the passing away of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar.
A) Lata Mangeshkar also known as Queen of Melody Nightingale of India Voice of the Millennium.
B) Mangeshkar was born in a Maharashtrian brahmin family in 1929, the eldest daughter of Deenanath Mangeshkar and his wife Shevanti.
C) She recorded songs in over thirty-six Indian languages and a few foreign languages, though primarily in Hindi, Bengali and Marathi.
D) She was the recipient of 3 National Film Awards,15 Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Awards, 4 Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards, 2 Filmfare Special Awards, etc.
E) She received several accolades and honours throughout her career like Padma Bhushan (1969), Dadasaheb Phalke Award (1989), Maharashtra Bhushan (1997), Padma Vibhushan (1999), Bharat Ratna (2001), Officer of the National Order of the Legion of Honor (2006).
8. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science & Technology, Environment, Forests and Climate Change is presently examining “The Wild Life (Protection) Amendment Bill, 2021”.
A) The Wild Life (Protection) Amendment Bill 2021 proposes to amend the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972.
B) Wildlife (Protection) Act (WPA), 1972 to conserve animals, birds, plants to the whole of India.
C) Wildlife (Protection) Act (WPA), 1972 prohibits the hunting of any wild animal specified in Schedules I, II, III and IV of the act.
D) The State shall endeavour to protect and improve the environment and to safeguard the forests and wildlife of the country, in the Indian constitution Article 48 A in the Directive Principles of State policy.
9. Tamil Nadu has urged Kerala to maintain the storage of Siruvani Dam up to its full reservoir level.
A) It is located in Palakkad, Kerala.
B) It was constructed in 1984 to supply drinking water to Coimbatore city of Tamil Nadu.
C) This dam was built on the Siruvani River, a tributary of the Bhavani river and near Muthukulam hill.
10. Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute(CMFRI) has identified a new species of fish carangid (Vatta) species from the Indian coast.
A) These fish are locally known as pola vatta.
B) This fish belongs to the ‘queen fish’ group and is named ‘Scomberoides pelagics.
C)There are more than 60 species of carangids in Indian seas, out of which four belong to the ‘queen fish’.
D) The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute was established on 3 February 1947 under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
