1. East Delhi citizens will get free sewer connections under the ‘Mukhyamantri Muft Sewer Connection Yojana.’
A) The free sewer connections will be provided by the Delhi government in 12 colonies in Mustafabad and Karawal Nagar. The colonies will include Chandu Nagar, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, and parts of Khajuri Khas. Rs 19 crore has been allocated by the state government for the implementation of these connections.
B) According to the Bureau of Indian Standards, the acceptable ammonia limit in drinking water is 0.5 ppm.
2. The United Nations has launched the “UN-Energy Plan of Action Towards 2025” and “Energy Compact Action Network”.
A) It sets out a framework for collective action by nearly 30 UN and international organizations.
B) The aim is to achieve the massive pledge made by the organizations at the time of the High-level Dialogue on Energy last September.
C) It is one of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 2015.
3. The second air squadron of the Indian Coast Guard has been commissioned.
A) The squadron has been commissioned at the Coast Guard Air Enclave, Nedumbassery, Kochi on the 4th of May 2022.
B) The squadron has been commissioned to improve the country’s self-reliance in the area of long-range maritime surveillance and search and rescue operations.
4. An apex-predator dinosaur has been discovered by Argentine palaeontologists.
A) This dinosaur measured to be as tall as three stories building from its nose to its tail.
B) The details regarding this newly discovered dinosaur have been detailed in a study that has been published in the Nature journal Scientific Reports. The scientific name “Maip macrothorax” is given to this dinosaur.
5. Neobank Open emerged as the 100th unicorn of India.
A) The term ‘Unicorn’ refers to the rarest of the rare startups who become Unicorns obtaining a valuation of more than USD 1 billion. Indian Startup Ecosystem ranked the third-largest in the world in number of Unicorns, as of 5th May 2022, is home to 100 unicorns with a total valuation of USD 332.7 billion.
B) In the first four months of 2022, India has given birth to 14 unicorns with a total valuation of USD 18.9 billion.
6. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation’s (IRCTC) first Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train will be run under the aegis of the new policy of the Ministry of Railways.
A) This train will be showcasing all the prominent places that are associated with Lord Rama’s life and also including Janakpur, Nepal which is the birthplace of Goddess Sita.
B) This train’s 18-day maiden journey will begin from the Safdarjung Station, Delhi. It will travel on the Ramayana Circuit of the Swadesh Darshan scheme.
7. On 7th May, International Astronomy Day is observed.
A) International Astronomy Day is a way for astronomy enthusiasts and professionals to share their knowledge and love of outer space with the general public.
B) This day was begun in 1973 by Doug Berger, the then president of the Astronomical Association of Northern California.
8. Researchers have observed a significant decline in the Bird population globally.
A) A study conducted by Cornell University has shown an increasing decline in the bird population.
B) Climate change is identified as an emerging driver of bird population decline.
