1) Kazhuveli Wetlands declared as 16th Wildlife Sanctuary of Tamil Nadu.

Key Points

The place is home to diverse species of flora and fauna and is a feeding ground for long-distance migrants from the cold subarctic regions of Central Asia and Siberia. 

Kazhuveli wetlands in Villupuram district is the 16th bird sanctuary in Tamil Nadu.

The area has adequate ecological, faunal, floral and geomorphological significance for the purpose of protecting, propagating and developing wildlife and its environment.

Spread over 670 sq. km of catchment areas, the Kazhuveli wetlands is said to be the second largest brackish water lake in South India after Pulicat lake.

Fact Check 

The declaration was made under the subsection (1) of section 18 of the Wildlife protection Act 1972. 

The Kazhuveli referred 2nd largest Brackish water Lake in South India.

2) CSE NITI aayog releases waste wise cities best practises and municipal solid waste management report. 

Key Points 

The report documents best practises of solid waste management from 28 cities in fifteen states of India. 

The new report is the result of five months of extensive research jointly conducted by niti aayog and CSE initiated in July 2021. 

The report contains source segregation, material recovery and technological innovation to the management of different kinds of waste and systems such as biodegradable plastics electronics construction and demolition waste and landfills.

3) Xiomara Castro is set to become the first female president of Honduras. 

Former Honduran first lady and leftist opposition candidate Xiomara Castro appears set to become the country’s first female president, a result that would put the left back in power 12 years after her husband was overthrown in a coup.

4) Manipur receives a central grant of 120 crore rupees under Jal Jeevan Mission by Government of India.

Key Points 

Manipur plans to make provision of tap water supply to every rural household of the state by September next year.

As on date, out of over four lakh 50 thousand rural households in Manipur, two lakh 67 thousand households have tap water connections.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti has said that a Central Fund of 481 crore rupees has been allocated to the state for 2021-22 for the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission.

Nearly four times the fund allocation made during 2020-21.

Jal Jeevan Mission is envisioned to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024 to all households in rural India. 

The programme will also implement source sustainability measures as mandatory elements, such as recharge and reuse through grey water management, water conservation, rain water harvesting.

5) Arunachal Pradesh’s Government is developing large and small hydroelectric projects.

Key points 

Arunachal Pradesh has huge hydropower potential and the State Government is leaving no stone unturned to harness these resources by developing large and small hydroelectric projects, wherever feasible.

The power generated from this Micro-Hydel Project will benefit the people of two administrative headquarters, Manmao and Renuk and its nearby villages in the district.

The Centre and the State Government is aiming to transform the power supply system by upgrading and strengthening the Power Distribution System in the country for a modern and viable power supply.

6) Indian Army’s Chinar Corps conducted a tri-service exercise involving helicopter-borne training.

Key Points

This exercise was undertaken in Kashmir with the Indian Air Force, Navy and Army to validate the joint capability to the task force tactically behind enemy lines in an intense air defence and electronic warfare operating environment.

The successful conduct of the mission validated the true spirit of jointness achieved in planning, utilisation of resources and accomplishment of laid down mission objectives as a true reflection of the tri-service ethos of the Indian Armed forces.

The Heli-dropped task force operated in the snow-clad regions at heights over 9000 feet. The Heli Borne task force included troops from Infantry, the Special Forces and the MARCOS from the Indian Navy.

The exercise showcased the capability of the Chinar Corps and the Indian Army to carry out successful operations in high altitude areas incorporating all facets of the contemporary and modern battlefield in synergy with the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy. 

7) Made-In-Hyderabad is gaining momentum with manufacturing Fighter wings in the city-based Aerospace, Defence Ecosystem.

Telangana State Industries Minister K Taraka Ramarao has said  Speaking after taking part in the certification programmes of Fighter Wings in Adibatla, near Hyderabad.

The partnership of Tata Aerostructure Ltd and Lockheed Martin has taken the Aerospace, Defense Ecosystem to greater heights in a short span of time. 

The F-16 Wing Certification and Delivery stands as a great testimony to the made-in- Hyderabad.

The state government will extend all possible assistance to these two sectors. 

Telangana plays the most active role in India in the aerospace and defence sectors.

8) Arunachal Pradesh Police today launched its CCTNS Cloud.

Key Points 

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar inaugurated the services in presence of DGP Ravindra Singh Yadav. Mr. Kumar on the occasion lauded the state police for launching the citizen centric portal, this service will help police to communicate with the people of the state in a much better way.

The Citizen portal will enable people to file complaints online without physically being present in the police station. This will be an online solution for seeking permission for any public events, processions or strikes request, character certificate and verification of employees, Tenant and Domestic help Verification and also Downloading FIRs.

There are 106 police stations in Arunachal Pradesh and of these 61 are connected with these services. It was informed that the rest of the police stations will be connected in the next 5 to 6 month period. 

9) India successfully test-fires “Vertical Launch Short Range Surface to Air Missile”.  

Key Points

India successfully test-fires Short Range Surface to Air Missile at integrated test range, Chandipur, Odisha yesterday.

Defence Research and Development Organisation, DRDO statement:  the launch was conducted from a vertical launcher against an electronic target at a very low altitude.

Earlier launch of the system was conducted to validate integrated operation of all weapon system components including the vertical launcher unit with controller and weapon control system required for future launches of the missile from Indian Naval Ships.

The first trial was conducted on the 22nd of February this year and this is a confirmatory trial to prove the consistent performance of the configuration and integrated operation.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has congratulated DRDO, Indian Navy and industry for the successful flight test.

10) Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana to be completed by 2025

Ministry of Union Rural Development, the third phase of the Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana will be completed by the year 2025. 

The focus is on providing easy access to markets, hospitals and schools.

The first phase of the central scheme focused on connectivity and the next phase on upgradation of rural roads. 

The objectives  of the third phase of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana are Gramin Agricultural Markets (GrAMs)

Developing Higher Secondary Schools and construction of Hospitals

The ongoing phase-three of the scheme, even road-length of less than the previously mandated 5-kilometres can be considered for development.

11) Australia also boycotted the winter Olympics of Beijing.

Australia will not send officials to February’s Winter Olympics in Beijing, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Wednesday, joining a US diplomatic boycott of the Games.

Canberra’s decision comes amid “disagreement” with China over a slew of issues that have plunged relations into the most serious crisis since the Tiananmen Square crackdown in 1989.

Morrison also cited human rights abuses in Xinjiang and Beijing freeze on ministerial contact with Australia.
