India has always recognised the significance of nature. There has been a custom in the country to protect animals and provide them with their natural habitat in which they can grow.
The NTCA (National Tiger Conservation Authority) has approved the Ramgarh Vishdhari Sanctuary in Rajasthan for conservation purposes. We’ll discuss further in the article about the reserve and other key facts related to it.
Ramgarh Vishdhari Wildlife Sanctuary
This will be the 52nd Tiger Reserve of India. It also becomes the 9th state in India to host over 100 tigers.
Established:
It was established in the Year 1982.
Location:
The Sanctuary is located at a distance of 45 Km from Bundi City on Bundi-Nainwa Road near Village Ramgarh, Bundi District, Rajasthan.
Significance:
- Ramgarh Vishdhari Wildlife Sanctuary acts as a cushion for the Ranthambore National Park and is spread over an area of 252 square kilometers.
- The sanctuary has diverse biodiversity. In the lush green forests of this Sanctuary, one can witness wild species such as Indian wolves, leopards, golden jackals, chinkara striped hyenas, sloth bears, and nilgais.
- The Ramgarh Vishdhari Sanctuary will extend support to the increasing number of tigers in Ranthambore.
Area of Tiger Reserve
The Ramgarh Vishdhari sanctuary covers 1,071 square kilometres out of which 302 square kilometres is designated as important tiger habitat and the rest as a buffer zone.
Other three tiger reserves of Rajasthan
Ranthambore Tiger Reserve (RTR) in Sawai Madhopur, Sariska Tiger Reserve (STR) in Alwar, and Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve (MHTR) in Kota have over 100 big cats.
NTCA (National Tiger Conservation Authority)
- National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change.
- It was established in 2005 following the recommendations of the Tiger Task Force.

Project Tiger
It began in 1973 with the establishment of nine tiger reserves. The aim was to save our national animal, the tiger. It is an ongoing Centrally Sponsored Scheme of The Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change. Project Tiger’s coverage has grown to 51 tiger reserves scattered throughout 18 tiger range states. It covers approximately 2.21 percent of the country’s land area.
M-STrIPES (Monitoring System for Tigers – Intensive Protection and Ecological Status) is an app based monitoring system, launched across Indian tiger reserves by the NTCA in 2010.
