Hello Folks!
In today’s blog we will talk about the Agni Prime which was successfully test fired by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) on 28 June, 2021. We will discuss in detail about the Agni Prime, its previous versions, features and other important points related to it.
About Agni-P
- Agni-P is a new generation advanced version of the Agni class of Missiles. It is the sixth missile in the Agni series of ballistic missiles.
- It is a medium-range ballistic missile developed by DRDO as a successor of Agni-I and Agni-II missiles.
- It is a two stage solid fuel missile that can be stored in a canister.
(Canister: It is used to accommodate missiles during transit to provide protection. It protects the missile from foreign inflow matter, shock vibrations, weather such as rain and snow. It helps in smooth ejection at launch.)
- It can be transported through road and rail. Its weight is half the weight of Agni-II.
- It has an improved guidance package and a propulsion system covering a distance of 1000-2000km.
- Enemy warships can be targeted with the help of this missile in the Indo-Pacific.
Location and other key facts of the test firing of Agni-P
DRDO successfully flight tested the missile from APJ Abdul Kalam island off the coast of Balasore, Odisha at 1055 hours. Various telemetry and radar radiations were positioned along the eastern coast to monitor the missile. The missile met all the mission objectives with a high level of accuracy.
