1) Today in 1945 the United Nations was founded.
The UN officially came into existence when the UN charter was ratified by many countries. The UN was formulated and negotiated between International leaders at Dumbarton Oaks Conference. India is a founding member of the UN.
2) Today in 1827 Lord Ripon, Viceroy of India, was born.
He was the Viceroy of India from 1880 to 1884. He is known for Pro India reforms like the repeal of Vernacular Press Act, The Hunter Commission etc. He started local self-government in India by a resolution in 1882.
3) Today in 1851 First Telegraph Line in India was opened between Calcutta and Diamond Harbour.
British India opened the first telegraph line. The Telegram service in India was popularly known as Taar. For 160 years the service was both anticipated and feared, bringing good and bad, but urgent news to Indians.
