TIE-UP BETWEEN INDIAN FOREIGN VARSITIES SIMPLIFIED

WHAT’S IN NEWS:

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has simplified the procedure for Indian Higher Education Institutions to offer programs in collaboration with foreign universities by entering into a MOU with each other directly if they meet certain eligibility criteria.

ELIGIBLITY CRITERIA:

  • Indian Higher Education institutions (HEI) that have National assessment and accreditation Council and ac grading of 3.0 1 or above

OR

  • It is among the top 1000 QS world University or Times Higher Education Ranking

OR

  • It is among the top 100 universities under National Institution Ranking Framework (NIRF)
  • For a foreign university to tie-up, it must feature among the top 100 QS or Times Higher Education Ranking

COURSES OFFERED:

  • Under 2016 regulation, a foreign and Indian college or university could partner to offer only twinning and point degree programs where Indian is to students received degree only from Indian institute along with the certificate from foreign institute, but now they can offer a dual degree program to where both the institutes will issue a degree.

DUAL DEGREE:

  • At least 30% of their course credit and the foreign institution.
  • Two degrees will be awarded each by the Indian and foreign institution which will indicate the credit earned at the respective institutions.
  • The course will have to be of the same discipline at the same level.
  • VGC has classified shall not in any way be constructed as 2-degree programmes in separate disciplines or subject areas at 2 different levels. This means a dual degree in BA English & B.Sc. Physics or B.Sc. Math & M.Sc. Biology will not be allowed under their assessment.

TWINNING:

  • The student can study a programme partly in India and partly in foreign university.
  • The diploma or degree will be awarded just by the Indian university.
  • Indian or foreign students will have to complete up to 30% of the course credit at their respective foreign Institutions by means of an exchange programme.

JOINT DEGREE:

  • The curriculum will be designed jointly by the collaborative institutions.
  • The degrees awarded by Indian university.
  • The collaborative university on the other hand will offer a certificate bearing the logo of both institutions upon completing the programme.
  • Students from India will be required to complete more than 30% of their course credit of the foreign Institution.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THESE COLLABORATIONS:

  • The increased bandwidth will allow more institution to partner and offer more Chores to the student.
  • The regulation will lead to the internalization of our Higher Education and will also provide a great opportunity for Indian students to acquire multi-disciplinary education for internationally relevant cases. 
  • This will enhance the employability of our students.
  • This will attract more foreign students to Indian universities.
