Biotech-PRIDE: Guidelines To Provide Framework For Sharing Of Biological Data

Download as PDF

Hello fellows! Hope you all are doing good. Today, in this blog we will discuss in detail the Biotech- PRIDE

As you all might have heard, on July 30, 2021, Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced the “Biotech-PRIDE (Promotion of Research and Innovation through Data Exchange) Guidelines”. These guidelines are developed by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Department of Biotechnology (DBT).

Biotech PRIDE Guidelines

  • These guidelines aim at providing a well-defined framework and guiding principle to facilitate and enable sharing and exchange of biological knowledge, information and data.
  • They will be implemented through the Indian Biological Data Centre (IBDC) at the Regional Centre for Biotechnology supported by the Department of Biotechnology.
  •  These guidelines will enable the exchange of information to promote research and innovation in different research groups across the country.

Bio-Grid

Bio-Grid will be a National Repository for biological knowledge, information and data. Other existing datasets/ data centres will be bridged to IBDC which will be called Bio-Grid. It will be responsible for allowing their exchange, establishing security measures, standards and quality of data sets, and establishing detailed modes of access to data.

Need of such Guidelines & advantages :

  • The Government invests a large number of public funds for biosciences to gain deep insights into intricate biological mechanisms and other processes and for translation
  • These guidelines will help avoid duplication and waste of research resources.
  • The PRIDE guidelines will help coordinate, collaborate, and foster data sharing for research and analysis in the country and will promote scientific work and advance progress based on previous work.
  • Government agencies fund research to generate large amounts of biological data in various fields of biological sciences because of the Advances in DNA sequencing and other high-throughput technologies, as well as the dramatic drop in the cost of DNA sequencing.
  • The launch of Biotech-PRIDE is the first of its kind in DBT; India ranks fourth among the top 20 countries which are contributing to biological databases.

So, with this, we came to an end of this detailed discussion on the topic Biotech- PRIDE. For more such blogs, stay tuned.

Thank you!
