I welcome you all to “Today in History by Hranker.com”. Here, we will discuss some of the major events in the history of 9th of June, 159th day of the year and 23rd Wednesday of 2021.
1) Today in 1900 Freedom Fighter Birsa Munda died.
Birsa was born at Ulihatu in the Bengal Presidency. He announced in 1894 a declaration against the British and Dikus and thus began the Munda Ulgulan. It is an important rebellion among the tribal people among the various uprisings of the tribals and peasants in India in the 19th century.
2) Today in 1716 Sikh Military commander Banda Singh Bahadur was tortured and killed by Mughals.
Bahadur and his men were locked up and tortured by Mughal soldiers .Mughals gave two options to him-either convert to Islam or face death , to which he and his men refused to convert and hence were killed.
3) Today in 1949 First woman IPS officer in India, Kiran Bedi, was born.
She was also the 24th Lieutenant Governor of puducherry.She started her service in 1972.
