India holds a very important place in the global education industry. India has one of the biggest networks of higher education institutions in the world. The education sector in India witnessed some major developments in the recent past. Do you guys know what all initiatives have been taken in our education sector? 

Let’s move further and discuss the Recent Initiatives in Education sector.

Recent Initiatives in Education sector:

Lately, our honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has introduced numerous initiatives in the education sector at a video conference which aims at forming India as a global knowledge superpower.

The Prime Minister  took note of the role played by portals like Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing (DIKSHA) and Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM) in online education during the pandemic.

Salient Features:

  • NISHTHA 2.0:
  1. NISHTHA 2.0 provides training to teachers as per their needs.
  2. This program will have 68 modules including 12 generic and 56 subject specific modules and cover around 10 lakh teachers.
  3. NISHTHA is the largest teacher’s training programme that encourages and furnishes teachers to motivate critical thinking in students.
  • Academic Bank of Credit:
  1. This is visualised as a digital bank that holds the credit earned by a student in any course. 
  2. This will be an important instrument for accelerating multidisciplinary and holistic education. 
  3. This will also provide multiple entry and exit options for students in Higher education.
  4. Academic bank of credit will make the youth future-oriented and open the ways for Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven economy.
  • Vidya Pravesh & SAFAL:

Vidya Pravesh is a 3 month play based school preparation module for Grade 1 students that will be released along with SAFAL (Structured Assessment For Analysing Learning Levels) which is a competency based assessment framework for Grades 3, 5 and 8 in CBSE schools.

  • Engineering in Regional Languages:
  1. 14 Engineering colleges in 8 States will be going to start engineering studies in 5 Indian languages namely Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi and Bangla.
  2. This feature will prominence in the mother tongue as the medium of instruction will implant confidence in the students from poor, rural and tribal backgrounds.
  3. The AICTE (All India Council of Technical Education) is creating a database of resources to allow colleges to offer more programmes in regional languages and also invented a tool to translate engineering content into 11 languages.
  • Sign Language as a Subject:

For the first time, Indian sign language has been introduced as a language subject. 

There are more than 3 lakh students who require sign language for their education. This salient feature will boost Indian sign language and will also help disabled people.

  • National Education Technology Forum (NETF):
  1. NETF is going to provide independent evidence based advice to central and state government agencies on technology based interventions. 
  2. There is a special focus on enhancing technology access at the basic level education. 
  3. Schools will require skilled experts to teach emerging technological skills to students.
  • National Digital Education Architecture (NDEAR):
  1. NDEAR will help in building a new education system that will create a digital foundation leading to self governance of all parties involved, particularly states and the Centre.
  2. NDEAR lets educators do analysis based on talents and abilities which will help students understand and focus on their area of specialties that can be utilised in their future profession.
