Key Highlights of the event
The Prime Minister performed ‘bhoomi pujan’ of Sardardham Phase-II Kanya Chhatralaya girls’. Kanya Chhatralaya will house 2000 girls, irrespective of their economic criteria.
He also announced that a Chair would be established at the Faculty of Arts in Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in the memory of Tamil poet Subramania Bharati, who passed away on this date in 1921.
The ‘Subramania Bharati Chair’ on Tamil Studies would be established in the Faculty of Arts of BHU. The Prime Minister added that Subramania Bharti always laid special emphasis on the unity of mankind and the unity of India. His ideals are an integral part of India’s thought and philosophy.
He said the ‘Skill India Mission’ is also a big priority for the country. Under this mission lakhs of youth have got the opportunity to learn different skills and are becoming independent.
A century ago it was on September 11, 1893, when the World Parliament of Religions was held in Chicago. He added that on this day, Swami Vivekananda stood on that global stage and introduced the world to the human values of India.
Where and who developed it?
It is built over an area of 11,672 square feet near the Vaishnodevi circle in the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar border area. It is developed by the Vishva Patidar Samaj.
Vishva Patidar Charitable Trust is an organization of patidar samaj, working eminently for the growth and expansion of it’s community.Oxygen Center, Blood Donation Camp, Educational Financial Assistance, Women’s Home Industry Training Center, Eye Diagnosis and Cataract Operation Camp, are some of the programs organized by this institute.
Sardardham Bhavan – Characteristics
- The construction of Sardardham has been done at an estimated cost of ₹200 crore.
- A 50-feet tall bronze statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is installed in front of the building.
- The Civil Services Training Centre at Sardardham also provides training to students belonging to other castes, including Dalits, free of cost through online mode.
- Residential facilities for 1,600 students/aspirants (boys and girls). It houses separate hostels for 800 boys and an equal number of girls from the Patidar community.
- The mega-complex also houses an e-library having 1,000 computers, an auditorium, skill development centre for budding entrepreneurs of the Patidar community, a business networking centre, a revenue and legal guidance unit, a career guidance centre and four classrooms to prepare young aspirants for UPSC, GPSC and other government services exams.
Goals of Sardardham
- The focus of the project has been on the social, educational, and economic development of the country.
- To recognise Patidars from Village to Global Level.
- Social and Economic Development of needy Patidar’s Family
- Women Empowerment by providing them education, self-employment and entrepreneurship.
- Elimination of health-hazard habits such as Tobacco, liquors, Gutaka etc.
- To create Hostel Facilities for 2000 Boys and Girls in the first phase which will be increased to 8000 in the Second Phase.
Statue of Unity
The Sardardham Bhavan as the name suggests is dedicated to the “Iron Man of India”, Sardar Vallabbhai Patel. The Prime Minister said that Sardardham Bhavan will not only empower the future generations, but also inspire them to lead their lives by following principles followed by Sardar Patel in his life and that inspiration stands in front of us as the Statue of Unity.
The Statue of Unity is the World’s Tallest Monument located in Gujarat’s Kevadia. It was inaugurated on October 31, 2018, on the 143rd birth anniversary of the “Iron Man.” It is an iconic symbol of the ‘Iron Man’, who played an important role during India’s freedom struggle and thereafter in the unification of the princely states.

Bhupendra Patel is a first-time MLA from Gujarat’s Ghatlodiya who won the 2017 assembly election against the Congress’s Shashikant Patel by more than 1 lakh votes, the highest margin that year. He holds a diploma in civil engineering from the Government Polytechnic Ahmedabad.
