Meaning of Telecommunication-
Telecommunication is communication through a wire, radio, or other electromagnetic systems. We cannot communicate with others over a distance, without the use of technology.
Beginning of this day-
It began in the year 1969. On this day marks ITU was founded. The signing of the first International Telegraph Convention in 1865 (Paris) also happened on this day.
Along with it, we also celebrate Information Society Day on 17th May.
The International Telecommunications Union is important in the field of communication. There are several traditional means of sending a message. However, the internet tops the list because of its convenience and connectivity.
Objectives of celebrating it-
- We celebrate this day in order to spread awareness about internet usage worldwide.
- It also acknowledges ICT’s (Information and Communications Technologies) efforts for economic development, social and political growth.
- To help increase the awareness of the possibilities that technology brings.
- To applaud the Telecommunication engineers for their invention of the radio, television, wireless communication satellites, etc.
Theme for this day-
The first theme that was chosen in the year 1969 was ‘The ITU’: Get to know that ITU.
The theme for the year 2020 is ‘Rebooting the Economy through Science, Technology and Research Translations titles RESTART.’
Conclusion
The invention of different technologies has made our lives easier in many ways. Yet it’s a matter of concern that third-world countries do not have proper access to technology.
