Hello Readers!

Key points
Union Ayush Minister Sarbananda Sonowal recently visited the All India Institute of Ayurveda. He ensured help for establishing the world’s first bio bank of ayurveda.
Union Minister along with deputy minister of AYUSH, Dr Dr Munjapara Mahendrabhai inaugurated a multi-purpose yoga hall and a mini auditorium at the AIIA.
He assured his complete support for the Institute’s further development in order to make it the best Ayurveda Institute in the world.
He recommended the Blood Bank to expand research into autoimmune disorders and leukemia.
What is a Biobank?
A biobank is generally defined as a collection of human biological samples and associated information organized in a systematic way for research purposes.
It can be utilized to better understand molecular pathways as well as improve illness diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment.
Importance of ayurveda
The Ayurvedic approach emphasises a healthy and all-encompassing lifestyle rather than a therapeutic cure. The traditional healthcare system argues for a holistic and personalized approach to disease diagnosis and management, focusing on the individual as much as the disease.
Ayurvedic prognosis incorporates substantial use of herbs, exercise, diet, and lifestyle changes, in addition to an individualized diagnosis.
All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA)
AIIA is a public Ayurveda medicine and research institute in New Delhi that was founded in 2015. It is an autonomous institute under the AYUSH Ministry. The institute offers postgraduate and doctoral studies in a variety of Ayurvedic disciplines.
It concentrates on Ayurvedic medicine’s foundational research, drug development, standardization, quality control, safety evaluation, and scientific validation.
The Institute also aids in the promotion of medical tourism in India and the promotion of Ayurveda’s benefits.
National Heart Failure Bio bank (NHFB)
- Recently India’s first bio bank for heart failure research was inaugurated at Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST).
- The biobank will provide insights into heart diseases and heart failure among Indian children and adults, which are very different from that seen in the West.
- The storage facilities include-20, -80-degree mechanical freezers and a liquid nitrogen storage system which can store bio-samples at – 140 degrees perpetually for years. Currently, there are facilities to store nearly 25000 bio-samples.
- The rising prevalence of long-COVID symptoms and post-COVID heart failure necessitates the collection of patient data and bio specimens for bio banking for future study by long-COVID clinics.
- Researchers can gain access to well-annotated biological specimens connected to clinical data through the NHFB while maintaining adequate quality and security standards.
- The samples are collected after informed consent from patients who are willing to donate specimens.
AYUSH Ministry
AYUSH is the acronym of the medical systems that are being practiced in India such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy. These systems are based on definite medical philosophies and represent a way of healthy living with established concepts on prevention of diseases and promotion of health.
Vision and Objective of AYUSH:
- To provide cost-effective medical care across the country and better access to services to the people.
- To improve the educational institutions which provide AYUSH education.
- To improve quality standards of the drug making and proper supply of the medicines.
- To make AYUSH a prominent medical stream.
