1. The Government of Tamil Nadu has started the work of setting up India’s first Dugong Conservation Reserve in the Palk Bay region.

A) Dugong is protected under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

B) Dugong is a mermaid species found along the Indian coast. Dugongs are related to manatees and appear plump, similar to them, but they have a tail that looks like a swarm of dolphins.

C) Palk Bay, is a semi-enclosed shallow water body located between the southeast coast of India and Sri Lanka and has a maximum water depth of 13 metres.

2. The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has greeted scientists on National Science Day.

A) National Science Day is celebrated in India on 28 February every year to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect by Sir CV Raman.

B) Sir CV Raman was born in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu

C) Sir CV Raman was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930.

3. Government launched ‘Operation Ganga’ to rescue Indian citizens stranded in Ukraine.

A) India is facilitating the evacuation of Indians stranded in Ukraine through its land border crossings with Romania, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia.

B) Under the ‘Operational Ganga’ plan, the first Air India flight carrying 219 Indians from Ukraine had landed at the Mumbai airport from Bucharest.

4. Marathi language pride day was celebrated on 27th February on the birth anniversary of writer Vishnu Vaman Shirwadkar alias Kusumagraj.

A) It is celebrated on the birth anniversary of eminent Marathi poet Vishnu Vaman Shirvadkar alias Kusumagraj.

B) Kusumagraj has made a significant contribution to the cultural sector of Maharashtra and tireless efforts have been made to make Marathi the language of knowledge.

5. Scientists have discovered a bacterium that is large enough to be seen with the naked eye.

A) This bacterium has been named Thiomargarita Magnifica and has been described as the size of a fly.

B) This giant string-like bacterium can grow up to 2 cm in length, about the size of a fly, and is native to Caribbean mangroves.

C) This newly discovered bacterium is 50 times bigger than other giant bacteria.

6. Bhakta Kavi Narsinh Mehta University (BKNMU) in Junagadh recently discovered a new species of spider.

A) It is named “Narsinh Mehtai” to honour Narsingh Mehta.

B) Narsingh Mehta was born in 1414 in the Brahmin community and was a devotee of Lord Krishna.

7. The Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya launched the National Polio Vaccination Campaign on 26 February 2022.

A) The Universal Immunization Program is focusing on protecting children from diseases more than ever before.

B) Mission Indradhanush was launched to fully immunize more than 89 lakh children.

C) Intensive Mission Indradhanush was launched in 2017 to reach every child below the age of two years and pregnant women who were left out under routine immunization programmes.

8. North Korea Tests Ballistic Missiles recently.

A) During firing, the missile flew to an altitude of about 390 miles and a range of 190 miles.

B) The Non-Proliferation Treaty is an international treaty signed on 1 July 1968 that seeks to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapon technology, promote cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, and advance the goal of achieving nuclear disarmament.

9. China launched a Long March-8 rocket to put 22 satellites in space.

A) These satellites will be used for commercial remote sensing services, forest fire-prevention, marine environment monitoring and disaster mitigation.

B) The Long March-8 rocket is an orbital launch vehicle. It has been developed by the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology.

C) Long March 7 is a Chinese liquid-fueled launch vehicle, belonging to the Long March family. It has been developed by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CAST).

D) Sun-synchronous orbit is also called the heliosynchronous orbit. It is a nearly polar orbit around a planet.

10. Russia destroyed the world’s largest aircraft named “Ukraine’s Antonov-225 cargo plane”.

A) According to weapons manufacturer Ukroboronprom, restoring the “AN-225 Mriya” will cost more than 3 billion US dollars and may take more than five years.

b) The An-225 aircraft was based at Hostomel Airport when Russia attacked a Ukrainian airport on February 24, 2022.

C) Antonov An-225 Mriya was a strategic airlift cargo aircraft. It was designed by the ‘Antonov Design Bureau’ in the Ukrainian SSR within the Soviet Union during the 1980s.
