1. S. Somnath to become new ISRO Chief.

A) Somanath, who is currently Director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) in the Kerala state capital, will be the fourth Keralite to occupy the topmost post in the Indian space sector.

B) He joined ISRO’s Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre as the lead facility for developing rockets in 1985.

C) Somnath’s appointment is for a combined tenure of three years from the date of joining of the post, inclusive of an extension in tenure beyond the age of superannuation in public interest.

2. Boxer Lovlina Borgohain was appointed as DSP in Assam.

A) Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain was on Wednesday enlisted as a trainee deputy superintendent (DySP) in the Assam Police with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

B) Lovlina Borgohain is the second sportsperson from the state to be appointed a DSP in Assam Police as per a new sports policy, last year Hima Das was also given the same honour.

C) The boxer from Barpathar in Golaghat district of Assam, who won a bronze medal in the welterweight category in the Tokyo Games in Japan.

3. Forest Survey Report 2021 says India’s forest cover has increased by just 1,540 sq km in two years, mostly due to plantation and agroforestry.

A) India’s total forest cover is 713,789 sq km, or 21.71 percent of the total geographical area of the country. India has set a target of bringing 33 percent of its geographical area under forest cover..

B) Open forests currently have the biggest share in the country’s forest cover, with 9.34 per cent of the total forest cover.

4. The parliament of Kazakhstan elected Alikhan Smailov as the new prime minister.

A) Prior to this, the 49-year-old Smailov served as the country’s finance minister from 2018 to 2020. 

B) He became the first deputy prime minister in the Cabinet in 2019.

5. India-US discusses various key issues during virtual Homeland Security Dialogue.

A) The meeting was co-chaired by the Home Secretary, Ajay Bhalla, and Under Secretary for Strategy, Policy, and Plans, Department of Homeland Security, Government of USA, Robert Silvers.

B) During the meeting, both sides have reviewed the ongoing cooperation and identified further steps that can be taken to explore opportunities and synergies in cooperation.

C) Main agenda was counter-terrorism, cyber security, securing critical infrastructure and global supply chains, maritime security, aviation security, customs enforcement, and trade security, among other areas.

6. RBI approves appointment of Ittira Davis as MD and CEO of Ujjivan SFB.

A) Ujjivan Small Finance Bank said it has received the approval of the Reserve Bank of India on appointment of Ittira Davis.

B) He has over 40 years of work experience in India, Middle East and Europe.

C) For the quarter ended September, Ujjivan Small Finance Bank reported a net loss of Rs 274 crore owing to poor asset quality and higher provisions.
