I welcome you all to “Today in History by Hranker.com”. Here, we will discuss some of the major events in the history of 14th of June, 164th day of the year and 24th Monday of 2021.
1) Today in 1929 Jatin Das was arrested by Britishers in connection with the Lahore Conspiracy Case.
He was a Revolutionary Freedom Fighter. He died in prison after a 63 day hunger strike. He joined the Revolutionary Organisation “Anushilan Samiti” and also took part in the Non Cooperation Movement in 1921.
2) Today in 1958 Dr CV Raman received the Lenin Peace Prize.
He was a Physicist and Professor at University of Calcutta. He was also the President of the Indian Academy of Sciences.
3) Today in 1880 Rural Scientist Satish Chandra Gupta was born.
He was born in Kurigram in Rangpur district of Bengal. He was awarded a Master’s Degree in Chemistry from Presidency College, Calcutta.
4) Today in 1961 Sir K.S. Krishnan died.
He was an Indian Physicist. He was a co-discoverer of Raman Scattering, for which his mentor CV Raman was awarded the 1930 Nobel Prize in Physics.
5) Today in 1940 First Prisoners arrived at Auschwitz.
The first transport of polish political prisoners arrived at Auschwitz which became Nazi Germany’s largest concentration, extermination and slave labour camp. More than 1 million people died here.
