The plan for partition was declared by the last viceroy of India, Lord Mountbatten on June 3, 1947. The states of Punjab and Bengal were divided.

3) Today in 1960 Burdwan University was established in West Bengal.

It is a public university in Purba Bardhaman. It was established by the West Bengal government. The last Maharaja of Burdwan Udaychand Mahtab left the entire property of Burdwan to the govt of West Bengal after Zamindars system ended in 1950.
