1) Today in 1858 Death of Rani of Jhansi took place.

18 June in 1858 Death of Rani of Jhansi took place

She died fighting the British at Gwalior. She is a symbol of National Pride and Woman Power. Rani Laxmibai was born Manikarnika Tambe in Marathi family in Varanasi. Lord Dalhousie implemented Doctrine of Lapse and staked claim on territories of Jhansi.

2) Today in 1887 “Bihar Vibhuti” Anugrah Narain Singh was born.

He was a freedom fighter and later a politician. He was also a member of the Constituent assembly, elected to write the constitution of India. He was also called “Babu Saheb”.

3) Today in 1956 New Hindu Succession Act was passed.

The act amended and codified the law relating to intestate succession among Hindus. The Act extended to the whole of India except the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

5) Today in 1979 The SALT(Strategic Arms Limitation Talks) II treaty was signed between US President Jimmy Carter and Soviet Leader Leonid Brezhnev.

Treaty basically established numerical equality between the two nations in terms of nuclear weapons delivery systems.It also limited the Number of MIRV missiles.
