I welcome you all to “Today in History by Hranker.com”. Here, we will discuss some of the major events in the history of 19th of June, 169th day of the year and 25th Saturday of 2021.
1) Today in 1849 People of French Colony of Chandannagar voted in favour of Merger with India.
Chandannagar is situated in Indian state of West Bengal. French established a colony in Chandannagar in 1673 after buying the land from the then Nawab of Bengal, Ibrahim Khan.
2) Today in 1966 Shiv Sena was established by Bal Thackeray.
It is a right wing Marathi regionalist and Ultranationalist political party in India. Party’s primary base is in Maharashtra but it is a pan Indian base. Party draws strength from support of Maratha and Kunbi communities of Maharashtra.
3) Today in 1981 India’s first Indigenous communication satellite “APPLE” was launched.
It was launched by Ariane-1 from Kourou, French Guiana. APPLE was used in several communication experiments including relay of TV programmes and Radio networking. APPLE was dedicated to the nation on 13 August, 1981 by PM Indira Gandhi.
4) Today in 1901 Raj Chandra Bose, Indian Mathematician and statistician was born.
He was born at Hoshangabad in Madhya Pradesh. He discovered new codes for telecommunications. In 1976 America’s highest honour to a scientist came to Bose as he was elected Fellow of the US Academy of Sciences.
5) Today in 1953 Rosenbergs were executed for Espionage.
Failure of Court Appeals and Worldwide campaign for mercy, the couple were executed on charges of espionage by the USSR. They became the first American Civilians to be executed for espionage.
