I welcome you all to “Today in History by Hranker.com”. Here, we will discuss some of the major events in the history of 19th of June, 169th day of the year and 25th Saturday of 2021.
1) Today in 1996 the Government of India refused to sign the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) at the Geneva conference.
CTBT is a nuclear ban treaty which bans Nuclear explosions in all environments, whether for civilian or military purposes. The Conference on Disarmament that first met in 1979 was the main negotiating body that drafted the CTBT in 1993. 166 countries have signed and ratified the CTBT.
2) Today in 1756 “Black Hole tragedy” of Calcutta took place.
Group of British soldiers along with Halves were imprisoned by some rebellions in a suffocating cell. Most of them died there Black Hole of Calcutta was a dungeon in Fort William, Calcutta in which Siraj UD Daulah, the Nawab of Bengal held British prisoners of war.
3) Today in 1858 Gwalior Fort was captured by British troops and the First Indian Sept Mutiny officially came to an end.
Indian Rebellion of 1857 was a major uprising in India against the rule of British EIC. On 8 july 1858 peace treaty was signed and rebellion ended
4) Today in 1921 Tilak University was established.
It is also known as Maharashtra Vidyapeeth and was a Deemed university in 1921. It was established at the suggestion of Mahatma Gandhi and named after Bal Gangadhar Tilak.
5) Today in 1869 Laxmanrao Kirloskar, great industrialist and patriot, was born.
He was the founder of Kirloskar industry. He was born in Belgaum.
