I welcome you all to “Today in History by Hranker.com”. Here, we will discuss some of the major events in the history of 21st of June, 171st day of the year and 25th Monday of 2021.
1) Today in 1991 PV Narsimha Rao became the Prime Minister of India.
He was the 9th Prime Minister of India. He was also the first prime minister from Non Hindi belt. His tenure saw impactful economic reforms like the shift from Nehruvian Socialism to Liberalisation.
2) Today in 1948 C. Rajagopalachari was appointed India’s Last Governor General.
He was the first Indian Born Governor General. He also served as leader of Indian National Congress. He founded Swatantra Party and was first recipient of India’s Highest civilian award Bharat Ratna.
3) Today in 1948 Lord Mountbatten resigned as Governor general of India.
Mountbatten was the last British Viceroy of India and he was appointed by British government to wrap up the British Empire in our country.
4) Today in 1940 Keshavrao Baliram Hedgewar, politician and founder of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh(RSS) passed away.
He founded RSS in Nagpur in 1925 based on the ideology of Hindutva with the intention of creating Hindu Rashtra
5) Today in 1945 Japanese forces were defeated in Okinawa.
Japanese Resistance on Okinawa was finally crushed. It happened in less than three months after US troops landed there as the last stepping stone before the planned assault on Japan’s main Islands in World War 2.
