I welcome you all to “Today in History by Hranker.com”. Here, we will discuss some of the major events in the history of 24th of June, 174th day of the year and 25th Thursday of 2021.
1) Today in 1980 India’s Fourth President VV Giri passed away.
VV Giri took the oath of President on 24th August 1969 and entered Rashtrapati Bhavan and remained in office for a full term. He participated in the Home Rule League Movement started by Annie Besant.
2) Today in 1763 Mir Jaffar was crowned Nawab of Bengal after the Battle of Plassey.
Mir Jaffar served as Commander of Bengali Army under Siraj-ud-Daulah, the Nawab of Bengal, but betrayed him during the Battle of Plassey and succeeded Daulah after British Victory in 1757.
3) Today in 1991 First ever BJP Ministry led by Kalyan Singh took over in UP.
Controversial Babri masjid was demolished by a large group of protestors and Hindu Right Wing activists a year after he came in power. He is a former governor of Rajasthan belonging to Bharatiya Janata Party.
4) Today in 1812 Russia was invaded by Napoleon and his Grand Army.
French Emperor Napoleon massed his troops in Poland in the spring to intimidate Russian Tsar Alexander I and 600,000 troops of his Grand Army launched an ill-fated invasion of Russia.
5) Today in 1908 Famous Kathakali Dancer Gopinath was born.
He is regarded as the greatest preserver of the dance tradition. He is a recipient of Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
