I welcome you all to “Today in History by Hranker.com”. Here, we will discuss some of the major events in the history of 27th of June, 177th day of the year and 26th Sunday of 2021.
1) Today in 1839 Maharaja Ranjit Singh died.
He was the founder of Sikh Empire. He was born as Buddh Singh to Mahan Singh, chief of Sukerchakia misl and his wife Raj Kaur. He set up many weapon factories, canon foundries and gunpowder manufacturing factories.
2) Today in 1838 Bankim Chandra Chatterjee was born.
He was the author of the National Song “Vande Mataram”. He is known as Sahitya Samrat in Bengali.
3) Today in 2008 Former chief of Army Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw died.
He was widely known as Sam Bahadur. He was the Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971. He was the first Army Officer to be promoted to the rank of Field Marshal.
4) Today in 1964 Teen Murti Bhawan, official residence of the PM of India, became the Nehru Memorial Museum.
It was designated by Robert Tor Russell ,the British architect of Connaught Place and of the Eastern and Western Courts of Janpath during British Raj.It was built in 1930 as a part of the new imperial capital of India.
