1) Today in 1972 Shimla Agreement was signed between Indira Gandhi and Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.

It is also known as Simla Accord. It is an important part of Indo-pakistan relations. It was signed 8 months after the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971, that led to splitting of Pakistan and the consequent creation of Bangladesh.

2) Today in 1757 Nawab of Bengal Siraj-UD-Daulah was executed after his defeat at the Battle of Plassey.

Robert Clive bribed Mir Jafar, the commander in chief of the Nawabs army and also promised to make him Nawab of Bengal. Clive defeated Siraj -UD-Daulah at Plassey in 1757 and captured Calcutta.

3) Today in 1938 Chandra K .N Patel was born at Baramati near Pune.

He was the youngest scientist to be elected to the US National Academy of Sciences. He is the recipient of the Ballantine medal.

4) Today in 1993 ONGC converted into a corporation by Ordinance.

It was recognised as one of the Navratnas  by the Government of India. It has been conferred with Maharatna status in the year 2010.
