I welcome you all to “Today in History by Hranker.com”. Here, we will discuss some of the major events in the history of 7th of July, 187th day of the year and 27th Wednesday of 2021.
1) Today in 2008 The Indian Embassy in Kabul was targeted by Suicide bombing.
58 people were killed and 141 injured in the horrific terror attack. The car packed with explosives rammed into two Indian diplomatic vehicles that were entering the embassy and the collision detonated the explosives.
2) Today in 1859 Rettamalai Srinivasan, an activist for depressed classes from Tamil Nadu, was born.
He was brother in law of famous scheduled caste activist Iyothee Thass. He founded a Tamil newspaper called Paraiyan in October 1893.
3) Today in 1896 The premier show of “Marvel of the Century”, the first cinema show in India, was held.
It was arranged by representatives of French Lumiere brothers-Louis and Auguste Lumiere. It was held at Watson Hotel in Bombay.
4) Today in 1910 Bharat History Research Mandal was established.
It is hailed as one of Pune’s greatest institution.It was founded by historians VK Rajwade and Khanderao Mehendale. It is because of these two historians that the study of history developed as a scientific branch of knowledge in the city.
5) Today in 1948 Damodar Valley Corporation, the first public corporation, was established.
It is an Indian Governmental organization which operates in Damodar River area of West Bengal. The corporation operates both thermal power stations and hydel power stations under the Ministry of Power.
6) Today in 1981 Former Indian Cricket Team’s Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was born.
M S Dhoni captained Indian National Team in limited overs from 2007-17. He became the first captain to win all three ICC limited overs Trophies (World Cup, Champions Trophy and World Cup Twenty 20).
