1) Today in 1902 Swami Vivekananda died.
He is one of the greatest spiritual leaders of India.He met Ramakrishna Paramahamsa in 1881. His original name was Narendranath Dutta.He was a member of Brahmo Samaj, the sadharan Brahmo Samaj.
2) Today in 1776 American Independence Day was observed, commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in the USA.
The second Continental Congress unanimously adopted the Declaration of Independence, signalling the separation of the 13 original colonies from Great Britain amid the Revolutionary war.
3) Today in 1897 Revolutionary Alluri Sitarama Raju was born.
He led the Rampa Rebellion in Andhra Pradesh. He was referred to as “Manyam Veerudu” by the local villagers which means ‘Hero of the Jungle’.
4) Today in 1947 The Indian Independence Bill was presented before the House of Commons in Britain.
The Act partitioned British India into two new Independent dominions of India and Pakistan.
