1) Today in 1856 Hindu Widow Remarriage Act was passed.
The act legalised the remarriage of Hindu widows.Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar played a major role in establishment of the act. Sati custom was abolished by William Bentick.
2) Today in 1909 Independence Activist Aruna Asaf Ali was born.
She was an Indian Educator, political activist and publisher. She is widely remembered for hosting the Indian National Flag at Gowalia Tank Maidan, Bombay during the Quit India Movement. She became Delhi’s first mayor after independence.
3) Today in 1954 French Rule Ends in Mahe.
History of French in Mahe started in 1721. Mahe is also known as Mayyazhi situated at the mouth of river Mahe. The mahajana sabha organized a March into Mahe and Mahe was liberated.
4) Today in 1969 The first Human mission to the Moon, Apollo 11 was launched from Florida, USA.
It was launched by a Saturn V Rocket from Kennedy Space centre on Merritt Island. It was the Fifth crewed mission of NASAs Apollo Program.
5) Today in 1929 Indian Council of Agricultural Research was established.
It is an apex national organisation that plans, conducts and promotes research, education, training and transfer of technology for advancement of agriculture and allied sciences.
