1) Today in 1875 The Bombay Stock Exchange was founded.

Bombay Stock Exchange

It was founded on a street that was renamed as Dalal Street, Bombay. BSE is India’s largest and earliest securities market. It is also Asia’s first stock exchange.

2) Today in 2002 The African Union was established in South Africa.

African Union is a continental body consisting of 55 member states that make up the countries of the African Continent. It was launched as a successor to the Organisation of African Unity.

3) Today in 2011 South Sudan Achieved independence from Sudan.

South Sudan Achieved independence

It was the outcome of a 2005 agreement that ended Africa’s longest running civil war. Made up of the 10 southernmost states of Sudan, South Sudan is one of the most diverse countries in Africa. The country got split after the people of the south voted for independence.

4) Today in 1951 India’s first Five Year Plan was prepared and published by Jawahar Lal Nehru.

The Target GDP growth of the plan was 2.1% but the country recorded a growth of 3.6% that year. Five year plans were a formal model of planning adopted by the Indian Government after Independence, for an effective and balanced utilisation of resources.
