I welcome you all to “Today in History by Hranker.com”. Here, we will discuss some of the major events in the history of 18th of July, 198th day of the year and 27th Sunday of 2021.
1) Today in 1947 Indian Independence Act came into force.
The Indian Independence Act, 1947 received the royal assent and it put into action the Mountbatten Plan for the independence and Partition of India. The act decided to grant independence to India and Pakistan with effect from 15th August 1947.
2) Today in 1918 First Black President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela was born.
He was a human rights champion.His negotiations in the early 1990s with South African President FW De Klerk helped end the country apartheid system of racial segregation. Mandela and Klerk were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1993.
3) Today in 1909 Bishnu Dey, Gyanpeeth award winner and famous Bengali poet, was born.
He was a Bengali poet, writer and academician in the era of modernism, postmodernism. His most important work Smriti Satta Bhabishyat set a new precedent in Bengali poetry.
