1) Today in 1883 Star Theatre was opened in Calcutta.
It is now called Bidhan Sarani. It was the first institution of commercial bengali Theatre. It was one of the places where first motion pictures in Bengal made by Hira Lala Sen were screened.
2) Today in 1906 W.C Bonerjee, the First President of Indian National Congress, passed away.
He was the co-founder and first president of Indian National Congress. He was an Indian Barrister.
3) Today in 1963 Kashi Vidyapeeth was given recognition as a University.
Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth is a public university located in Varanasi. It was established in 1921. Established with the resolution to keep the institution away from government recognition and grants, the Vidyapith was accorded the status of “Deemed University” by the UGC in 1963.
