I welcome you all to “Today in History by Hranker.com”. Here, we will discuss some of the major events in the history of 11th of July, 191st day of the year and 28th Sunday of 2021.
1) Today in 2006 Mumbai was rocked with series of Train Bombings.
It led to the death of 209 people and injuring more than 700. They were a series of 7 bomb blasts in a span of 11 minutes. All the bombs were pressure cooker bombs that were placed in First class general compartments.
2) Today in 1957 One of the founders of All India Muslim League Aga Khan III died.
He was 48th Imam of the Nizari Islami Sect of Islam. He was the first Permanent President of All India Muslim League.
3) Today in 1989 First World Population Day was observed by the UN.
It is an annual event which seeks to raise awareness of Global Population Issues. It was inspired by the public Interest in Five Billion Day.
4) Today in 1994 Delhi IG (Prisons) Kiran Bedi won the Magsaysay Award for Public service.
The Inspector General of India’s largest prison won the award for controlling crime, enhancing the image of law enforcement and improving prison conditions.
5) Today in 2000 Amrita Pritam was honoured with the highest award for Punjabi Literature for the century “Shatabdi Samman”.
She was an Indian Novelist, essayist and poet who wrote In Punjabi and Hindi.
