I welcome you all to “Today in History by Hranker.com”. Here, we will discuss some of the major events in the history of 1st of August, 212th day of the year and 29th Sunday of 2021.
1) Today in 1920 Non Cooperation Movement was launched.
It was launched by the INC led by Mahatma Gandhi on 1st August 1920. It was a turning point in the history of the struggle for independence in India. It was a peaceful and non violent movement. People were asked to give up British awarded titles and positions.
2) Today in 1916 Annie Besant started the Home Rule League.
She established All India Home Rule League which was a political organization that aimed at self government, termed as Home Rule.
3) Today in 1920 Bal Gangadhar Tilak passed away.
He was an Indian Nationalist, Teacher and an independence activist. He was one third of the Lal Bal Pal. Tilak was the first leader of the Indian Independence movement. British Colonial authorities called him “The father of Indian Unrest”.
