I welcome you all to “Today in History by Hranker.com”. Here, we will discuss some of the major events in the history of 14th of August, 225th day of the year and 31st Saturday of 2021.
1) Today in 1947 Partition of India into India and Pakistan took place.
India was partitioned off into India comprising of Hindu majority areas and Pakistan comprising of Muslim majority areas. Partition was enacted by Indian independence Act 1947. The actual geographic demarcation of the areas was entrusted to Sir Cyril Radcliffe.
2) Today in 1862 Bombay High Court was established.
It is the High court of the Indian states of Maharashtra and Goa and UT of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. The first chief justice, the Attorney General and Solicitor General of Independent India were from this court. It is one of the oldest High Courts in India.
3) Today in 1987 Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan also known as Frontier Gandhi received Bharat Ratna.
He was an Independence Activist and Pashtun leader. He was a follower of Mahatma Gandhi. He joined Khilafat Movement in 1920 and founded Khudai Khidmatgar (Red Shirt Movement) in 1929.
4) Today in 1896 Gandhiji Published “The Green Pamphlet” at Rajkot.
He exposed conditions of Indian Indentured labourers and Coolies in South Africa. It was taken as an anti-government publication by the British.
