I welcome you all to “Today in History by Hranker.com”. Here, we will discuss some of the major events in the history of 18th of August, 229th day of the year and 31st Wednesday of 2021.
1) Today in 1945 Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose died in a plane crash.
He boarded a Japanese bomber plane at Taipei, Taiwan to escape to Manchuria. Bose suffered third degree burns and died in a hospital in Taiwan. He formed many associations such as All India Forward Bloc, Free India Legion and Azad Hind Radio.
2) Today in 1227 Mongol Conqueror Genghis Khan died.
He was the founder and first Great Khan of the Mongol Empire, which became the largest contiguous empire in history after his death. He launched the Mongol invasions that conquered most of Eurasia, reaching as far west as Poland in Europe and Levant in the Middle east. He died in 1227 after defeating the Western Zia.
3) Today in 1900 The first woman president of the UNGA, Vijay Lakshmi Pandit was born.
She was an Indian Diplomat and Politician who was first female elected to 6th Governor of Maharashtra and 8Th president of UNGA. Her brother Jawahar Lal Nehru was the first Prime Minister of India. She belonged to the Kashmiri Pandit community.
