1) Today in 2007 the UN passed a resolution to observe Gandhi Jayanti as International Day of Non Violence.

October 2 is marked as the International Day of Non-Violence every year by the United Nations. Mahatma Gandhi gave the world the philosophy of non-violence or Ahimsa. It was Mahatma Gandhi’s firm belief that only a nonviolent movement can achieve the highest objective of freedom.

2) Today in 1904 the second Prime Minister of India Lal Bahadur Shastri was born.

Lal Bahadur Shastri was an Indian statesman who served as the second Prime Minister of India. He promoted the White Revolution – a national campaign to increase the production and supply of milk – by supporting the Amul milk co-operative of Anand, Gujarat and creating the National Dairy Development Board.

3) Today in 1961 Indian Limited Shipping Transport Corporation was established.

The Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) is an Indian public sector undertaking. It is under the management of the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India with its headquarters in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India that operates and manages vessels that services both national and international lines.
