1) Today in 1962 the Sino – Indian war started.
The war started with simultaneous Chinese offensives in Ladakh ane along the McMahon line. The war ended with a Chinese ceasefire a month later and defeat for India.
2) Today in 2011 Libyan Ex leader Muammar Gaddafi was killed.
He was captured and killed during the battle of sirte. The killing of Gaddafi was criticized as violation of international law.He was found hiding in a culvert west of sirte after his convoys were attacked by NATOs aircraft.
3) Today in 1973 the opening of the Sydney Opera House took place.
It was opened by Queen Elizabeth II. It was designed by Danish architect Jorn Utzon whose dynamic, imaginative but problematic plan won an international competition in 1957.
