1) Today in 1972 Indian Parliament passed the Wildlife Protection Act.
It was passed for the protection and preservation of different species of flora and fauna. The act was implemented on 9th september 1972. The act has 6 schedules and each schedule guarantees varied degrees of protection to animals and plants.
2) Today in 1997 Krishan Kant became the 10th Vice president of India.
He was an Indian Politician and served as Vice President until his death. He was formerly Governor of Andhra Pradesh and member of Lok Sabha from Chandigarh.
3) Today in 1981 Freedom Fighter Dattatrey Balkrishnan Kelelkar passed away.
He was an Indian Independence Activist, social reformer, journalist and eminent follower of philosophy and methods of Gandhi. He became a member of Rashtabhasha Samiti, a committee whose objective was to popularize Hindi-Hindustani languages.
