1) Today in 1539 Founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev Ji died.
Gurū Nānak, also referred to as Bābā Nānak, is the first of the ten Sikh Gurus. His birth is celebrated worldwide as Guru Nanak Gurpurab on Katak Pooranmashi, i.e. October–November.
2) Today in 1992 India-British Extradition Treaty was signed in London.
Since then the UK has accepted only two requests for extradition of a fugitive living in that country. All other requests remain pending till date. Extradition proceedings are slow in the UK.
3) Today in 1980 Iraq invaded Iran followed by a war that lasted for 8 years.
The Iran-Iraq War dragged on in a stalemate until 1988, when both countries accepted a cease-fire that ended the fighting. Despite the large foreign debt with which Iraq found itself saddled by war’s end, Saddam continued to build up his armed forces. In August 1990 the Iraqi army overran neighbouring Kuwait.
