1) Today in 1947 Maharaja Hari Singh of J&K signed the Instrument of Accession.

Instrument of Accession was a legal document that ceded J&K to the dominion of India as per Indian Independence Act 1947. Pakistan refused to recognise the Instrument of Accession and soon the first Kashmir War started.

2) Today in 1899 Freedom Fighter and Journalist Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi was born at Allahabad.

He was a leader of INC and an Independence Movement activist. He is known as founder-editor of the Hindi Language newspaper “PRATAP”.

3) Today in 1891 Vaikunthbhai Mehta, leader of Indian Cooperative Movement at Bhavnagar was born.

He was a Friend, Philosopher, guide and a doyen of the Co-operative Movement. He served in the Maharashtra State Co-Operative Bank as Chief executive for an uninterrupted period of 35 years.
