I welcome you all to “Today in History by Hranker.com”. Here, we will discuss some of the major events in the history of 5th of August, 216th day of the year and 29th Thursday of 2021.
1) Today in 1965 Second Indo Pak war began.
The war was fought over the Kashmir Issue and was initiated when 30000 Pakistani troops disguised as locals crossed over to Indian Side of LOC. The infiltration strategy was codenamed as Operation Gibraltar. War ended on September 23, 1965 after the UNSC called for unconditional ceasefire.
2) Today in 1905 Dr Rajah Sir Muthiah Chettiar was born.
He was a banker, Politician and Philanthropist. He was a distinguished member of Nattukottai Nagarathar Community.
3) Today in 1965 Jayprakash Narayan was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service.
He was posthumously awarded Bharat Ratna in 1999. He was an independent activist, social reformer and political leader.
4) Today in 2019 Article 370 was abrogated which revoked the Special status of Jammu & Kashmir.
The state was bifurcated into two union territories of J&k and Ladakh. Historic move led to imposition of restrictions on several political leaders and activists in Kashmir valley.
