1) Today in 1888 Dr S Radhakrishnan was born.
He was India’s first Vice President and Second president. His birth anniversary is celebrated in India every year as Teacher’s day. He started his career as a teacher in the Department of Philosophy at MCC. He also served as Vice Chancellor of Andhra University and Banaras Hindu University.
2) Today in 1872 Great freedom fighter and Writer VO Chidambaram Pillai was born in Tamil Nadu.
He was also known as Kappalottiya Tamizhan or The Tamil Helmsman. He founded Swadeshi Steam Navigation Company in 1906 to compete against the monopoly of the British India Steam Navigation Company.
3) Today in 1997 Mother Teresa died.
She was honoured in the Catholic Church as Saint Teresa of Calcutta. She was an Albanian Catholic Nun and missionary. She founded the Missionaries of Charity, a Roman Catholic religious congregation.
