I welcome you all to “Today in History by Hranker.com”. Here, we will discuss some of the major events in the history of 7th of August, 218th day of the year and 30th Saturday of 2021.
1) Today in 1925 MS Swaminathan was born.
He was an Eminent geneticist and agricultural scientist who transformed Indian Agriculture through the Green Revolution. He was director general of ICAR between 1972-79. He was also President of IUCN from 1984-90.
2) Today in 1905 INC declared a boycott to British goods and the Swadeshi Movement started.
The Swadeshi Movement was part of Indian Independence Movement and contributed to the development of Indian Nationalism. The Swadeshi movement was formally started from Town Hall Calcutta after the Partition of Bengal.
3) Today in 1990 the Government of India accepted the Mandal Commissions recommendations and decided to reserve 27% jobs for Backward classes.
Report was accepted by the National Front government led by VP Singh after being neglected for 10 years. Commission recommended members of OBCs be given 27% Reservations for jobs under the Central Government and PSU.
