I welcome you all to “Today in History by Hranker.com”. Here, we will discuss some of the major events in the history of 7th of September, 249th day of the year and 34th Tuesday of 2021.
1) Today in 1931 the Second Round Table Conference began in London.
This was second in a series of three conferences held by Britain with Indian Leaders to discuss Constitutional reforms. The second RTC was deemed a failure as nothing substantial came out of it. The INC was against giving separate electorates to different sections of society but almost all minorities wanted separate electorates.
2) Today in 1822 Brazil declared Independence from 322 years of Portuguese colonial rule.
Prince Dom Pedro declared Brazil’s independence from Portugal founding the Empire of Brazil which led to a two year war of independence. Formal recognition came with a treaty signed by both Brazil and Portugal in 1825.
3) Today in 1933 Founder of Self Employed Women’s Association of India (SEWA) Ela Bhatt was born.
SEWA was a trade union representing self employed female textile workers in India. Her successful leadership won her National and International recognition.
