1) Today in 1708 The Tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh died.
Guru Gobind Singh was the tenth Sikh Guru, a spiritual master, warrior, poet and philosopher. When his father, Guru Tegh Bahadur, was executed by Aurangzeb, Guru Gobind Singh was formally installed as the leader of the Sikhs at the age of nine, becoming the tenth and final human Sikh Guru.
2) Today in 2000 The First Rajiv Gandhi Wildlife Conservation Award was given to WWF-India.
The Rajiv Gandhi Wildlife Conservation Award is given each year for significant contribution in the field of wildlife conservation, which is recognized as having made, or has the potential to make a major impact on the protection and conservation of wildlife in the country.
3) Today in 1950 Mother Teresa started Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta.
The Missionaries of Charity is a Catholic religious congregation established in 1950 by Mother Teresa, now known in the Catholic Church as Saint Teresa of Calcutta. In 2020, it consisted of 5,167 religious sisters. Members of the order designate their affiliation using the order’s initials, “M.C.”
