I welcome you all to “Today in History by Hranker.com”. Here, we will discuss some of the major events in the history of 8th August, 219th day of the year and 30th Sunday of 2021.
1) Today in 1936 Jim Corbett National Park was established.
It is India’s first National Park and was established in Nainital, Uttarakhand. It was established as Hailey National Park, named after the Governor of United provinces, Sir Malcolm Hailey. The Park is famous for Royal Bengal Tigers and Asiatic Lions.
2) Today in 1955 Dr Homi J Bhabha elected chairman of the International conference on Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy.
He was an Indian Nuclear Physicist, director and professor of physics at TIFR. He was known as Father of Indian Nuclear Programme. He was awarded Padma Bhushan in 1954.
3) Today in 1912 Prabhu Lal Bhatnagar, famous mathematician and Padma Bhushan awardee was born.
He was known for his contribution to the Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook operator used in Lattice Boltzmann methods. He was awarded Padma Bhushan by the President of India on 26 January 1968.
